The Prisoner (2009) (3 Discs)

Having not seen the whole of the original series from start to finish (I wasnt even born when it first aired!) it would be wrong for me to compare the original with this remake, yet that said this is just as confusing and as weird as the episodes of the original that I have seen but with an updated different twist to the plot making it suitable for the modern day.

In terms of the cast Ian McKellen makes a brilliant Number Two appearing mysterious and classy but having just enough layer of menace while not falling into the cartoon villain type category. Jim Caviezel is equally strong as Number Six being as lost as the viewers are while the entire recurring or guest cast put in great performances especially the attractive Ruth Wilson as the village doctor. In relation to the story, there are some scenes or parts of certain episodes that do drag but that is true for most TV shows, that said the rest of the scripts are satisfying if slightly weird and the ending itself is a tad… more »

Overall I found this to be a very good watch, not brilliant or outstanding by any means but it had a decent story with several weird and mysterious elements throughout and of course it had several appearances of the Rover bubble thing that was the highlight of both this series and the original. The cast was also very strong especially the three main leads (McKellen, Caviezel and Wilson) while the location used for filming and the cinematography used are simply stunning to watch. In all not a bad series to watch although this is definitely more for newer viewers and those who have not watched any or all of the classic original series.
